Mrs Taylor's Class
Welcome to 5T!
Welcome back for Summer Term.
I can't believe we are in our final term together.
This half term we will be immersing ourselves in our new topic and finding out about Ancient Greece. As well as finding out about life in Ancient Greece, we will be exploring and writing our own versions of Greek Myths and looking at Greek Architecture before using clay to create our own friezes.
In addition to this, we have lots of other exciting plans for this half term including sports day and our summer fair. I am looking forward to another exciting half term with the best class!
General Information
Reading
Here at St Patrick's we aim to foster a love of reading. Please feel free to choose books from our class library or to bring in your own books from home. I love finding new stories and authors to read! In Year 5 reading for pleasure is wonderful and we encourage all children to aim to read for at least 20 minutes a day.
Communication
Please let school know if any of your contact details have changed (phone number, email, addresses) in the event we need to call home or contact you.
Homework
We will post spellings, English and Maths homework every Monday on Purple Mash, or the VLE to be completed by the following Monday with the children tested on their spellings each week. Please encourage your children to complete their homework every week as well as reading each night (approximately 20-30mins).
Completing homework on time, in an organised and structured way are excellent habits to encourage and form a key part in consolidating their learning. Revising times tables will also help your child with key elements of Maths.
If your child is finding homework a challenge please don’t hesitate to let me know.
PE
PE sessions will take place every Monday and Wednesday. Our Wednesday session will be led by Helen our PDS coach and we will be learning OAA and our Monday session will see us practising our Athletics with Mrs Farley. The children will wear their PE kits to school on these days. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit – branded shorts etc are not part of school uniform. While the weather is cold, the children may wear jogger bottoms, but they must still wear their school cardigan or jumper – no hoodies.
Medical
A quick reminder -if your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it has been returned to school, and is not out of date.
Snack
As we are a ‘Healthy School’ we would like to remind parents that a healthy snack at playtime is encouraged. Please don’t send any chocolate or sweets into school as a snack.
Many thanks for all your support.
