Welcome to Year 4 Miss Edmonds' Class

Spring Term 2017

During the Spring Term, we will be learning about the Earth's structure and focusing on volcanoes and earthquakes. This is a Geography based topic and the children will learn to understand how living near to these earth features can affect lives.

The creative overview below provides further information about the topic and how subjects connect.

Here are a few questions to think about as we begin:

What causes volcanoes and earthquakes?

How are they formed?

How do volcanoes and earthquakes affect the lives of people living near them?

What is the difference between lava and magma?

General Information

Children are asked to bring their reading book and diary to school each day as this will enable me to provide a comment to inform you when Guided Reading sessions have taken place. Please spend time with your child discussing the setting, characters and development of plot to further their understanding of the text. Books are logged and children are encouraged to clearly note dates and pages read. Feedback from parents/carers is always greatly appreciated.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and should be completed and returned in the folder provided the following Friday. Weekly homework will include a Maths based activity to reinforce learning which has taken place during the week and a spelling activity. The children will be tested each Friday on the spelling words and the times table facts.

P.E.

Please ensure full P.E. kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled.

We will focus on developing our skills in Swimming and Netball this half term.

Year 4 Maths Objectives - Summer

On Tuesday 7th March, we were visited by the artist Tim Quinn.  He told us all about how he became an artist, how he met the famous Stan Lee and about his work for Marvel Comics.  He shared with us some examples of his work and showed us how we could create our own superhero and sidekick.

This term in music one of our objectives has been to strengthen and improve our bow hold. This exercise has really helped the children to improve their grip.
On Friday 13th January Year 4 visited Stanley High.  We had a fantastic day doing English, P.E, Design and Technology and even a visit to the farm.

Dewa Roman Experience

Year 4 really enjoyed their trip to Chester for the Dewa Roman Experience.   We hope you enjoy looking at our photographs of the day.
