Using the Netbooks

Drama to retell stories

Welcome back.

The children have settled back into school after the Easter holidays quickly and were keen to begin working.

The last term in Year 1 is going to be a busy one and we have already started excitedly preparing our assembly.  We are really looking forward to sharing it with you all.

Our topic over this term is Explorers.  We will begin looking at great explorers in the past and then become explorers ourselves to explore the local area.

Our PE days this half term will be a Wednesday and a Thursday.  Please make sure your child has their kit in school on these days.

Happy New Year!smiley

All the children in 1B have settled back into school happily after the Christmas holidays and have made a super start to the term so far.

Our new topic is all about Castles. (See Overview below.) If you have any books, pictures or objects related to this topic we would love to see them and will take great care of anything brought into school.

Reading Books

Please try and read with your child as often as possible. Books will be changed once a week if a child's Reading Record has been signed.

PE

We have PE on Thursdays and Fridays. Please make sure that your child has their kit in school on these days.

Homework

We will continue to send spellings home on Mondays for the children to learn each week. Please help them to write sentences using given words. This is a great way to help your child develop more confidence for independent writing.

Snack

Our Healthy Snack scheme has started again this week. If your child is taking part in the scheme please make sure that you send in their money every Monday or at the beginning of each half term.

Autumn Term

This half term we will begin with a one off topic week looking at Remembrance Day. We will explore why we have Armistice Day as well as looking at the significance of the symbol of the poppy.

For the rest of the half term we will be looking at  'Hot and Cold'.

We will be learning through a Geography focus and finding out about Hot and Cold places around the world and comparing them to the UK. We will explore different types of weather and begin to look at simple map work.

General Information

Reading books

Children will be given 3 reading books at a time. Please try to read each day with your child, even if it is only a couple of pages, and note this down in their reading record. The children will be given a specific day of the week and their books will be changed on that day if they have been completed and their reading record signed.

During and after completion of the book, please spend time discussing the setting, characters and key words from the story to further your child's understanding of the text.

Children are asked to bring their books into school on a daily basis as this will enable me to write a comment in their Reading Diary when they have taken part in either Guided or Individual reading.

P.E

Please ensure your child has their full, named P.E kit in school at all times.

Uniform

Please ensure that all items of uniform are named so that if they are left they can be returned to their correct owners.
Due to the changeable weather please ensure that suitable clothing is brought to school including a waterproof coat.
