Online Learning for Year 6 for Friday 15th January 2021

 

Please complete activities/files set by Miss McAteer/ Mrs.Forden

 

Please remember:  Work will be uploaded by 9 am each day and needs to be completed by 4pm  so that your next tasks can be assigned.

You do not need to email work back to school, but please upload your completed tasks to Purple Mash/VLE. If you cannot use Purple Mash your work can be handwritten or typed and uploaded to the VLE.

English -Reading Comprehension Exratordinary Lives:Mary Anning

Go to files find ‘Mary Anning Reading comprehension’ & ‘Comprehension questions’ PDF documents. Read the text then answer the questions. Answers can be typed directly onto a new word document on the VLE, or handwritten, then uploaded to your work folder on the VLE, once you have marked your work. The answers are provided on the bottom of the sheet so that you can see how well you’ve done.

English–Glossary Activity

Using a dictionary, find definitions for words taken from ‘Extraordinary Lives: Mary Anning’. Answers can be typed directly onto a new word document on the VLE, or handwritten, then uploaded to your work folder on the VLE once you have marked your work. The answers are provided on the bottom of the sheet so that you can see how well you’ve done.

English- Spelling

Log in to Purple Mash. Complete the ‘2Do’ Y6 Spring 1 Week 1 Quiz ( if you haven’t already!)

 

 

Maths – Time and problem solving

Open the powerpoint ’12 &24hr Clock Quiz’ – go through the powerpoint and test yourself on your knowledge of  the 24hr clock – remember 1:00am = 01:00   and 1:00pm = 13:00 - 24hr clock ALWAYS has 4digits and you don’t need am/pm. When you have finished, go to the ‘Files’ section on the Blog. There you will find a PDF called ‘Time for MineCraft’. There are different levels of questions for you to try, chose the one most suitable, but try and challenge yourself. You do not need to print out the sheets, but you can if you want, otherwise, recording your answers on paper is fine.  When you finish, check your answers (they are at the end of the document) and upload your work to your folder on the VLE or you can email me directly with your work.

 

Topic-Art

Go to files and find the PowerPoint ‘Mondrian’. Go through the PowerPoint. Log in to Purple Mash. Click on the ‘2Dos’ icon

‘2Paint A Picture’. Click on the ‘lines’ icon to create a painting in the style of Mondrian. Remember to use only primary colours and white and to draw the lines in black.

 

PE

 You can either:

a) Follow a Joe Wicks workout

b) Do the HIIT challenge – for this you will need a stop watch, two tins (e.g beans or soup) and some space.

Firstly do some stretches ( think about how we stretch with Neil) and do a 5 min warm up by completing

X10 jumping jacks, x10 squats, x10 burpees ( repeat twice) Have another stretch if you need to.

 

HIIT Challenge: See how many rounds of each you can do in 20mins – don’t forget to keep count! You can stop at any point for a rest, but don’t stop the timer! When you finish make a note of how many rounds you did/ how far you got. You will try the challenge again and aim to improve – Good Luck!

English – The Ambleford Marbles Chapter 7

Log in to Purple Mash. Click on the ‘2Dos’ icon. Read Chapter 7 of the story ‘The Ambleford Marbles’ and complete the Chapter 7 set task -Chapter 7 Online Multiple Choice.

English– Extended Writing

Now that you have finished reading The Ambleford Marbles, use the template to write a review about the story. If possible, use Purple Mash and complete the ‘2Do’ activity entitled –Book Review.  Use the ‘think about’ prompts to help you organise your ideas into paragraphs. Use evidence from the story to back up your ideas. Remember to write what the story is about and your thoughts about the story in different text boxes. If you cannot use Purple Mash, this can be handwritten or typed then uploaded to the VLE. Remember to check your punctuation and spelling before you save/upload/hand-in your work.

Go to files - find Y6 Spring 1 Week 1 PDF document. Open the document and practise writing each word on paper on different days during the week. Complete the Y6 Spring 1 Week 1 Quiz towards the end of the week.

Maths – Time

Complete the 2Do on ‘Multiplication and Division’ – take your time and think carefully about your answers.

When you have finished, open the PDF ‘Time Word Problems’. You can find the PDF in the ‘Files’ section on the blog. You don’t need to print them out; you can read them from the screen and answer the questions on a piece of paper.  There are 20 questions – you must do at least 10, but challenge yourself and try them all if you can.  You can check your answers when you finish (answers are on the last page) Take a photo of your work and upload it to your ‘Work’ folder or you can email me directly.

 

Topic-Science

  1. Watch the Mary Anning Powerpoint. ( if you can’t access the ppt, you can do a little bit of research online).  After you have read a little about her, create a Fact File about Mary Anning. Include a picture/ drawing, interesting facts, date of birth etc. It should be 1 side of A4, or you can make a booklet. You can complete the task on a computer or by hand. (make sure to upload your work)
  2. Create your own fossil mould by using play dough/ clay and press a leaf into the clay. ( take a photo and upload)  OR you can print (or draw) the ‘Stages of fossilisation’ book.

Maths – Applying your knowledge of Time

Go to the ‘Files’ section on the class blog. There you will find x3 sheets about Football and Time. Chose the level you think you can complete independently – challenge yourself if you can. You can either print the sheet, or write the answers on paper. When you have finished, look at the answers and see if you were correct. Upload your work to your Work Folder on the VLE – please date and label it clearly.

 

Topic- History- The Maya Civilisation

Go to files and find ‘Meeting the Maya’ PowerPoint. Read the information about the ancient Maya people on the PowerPoint about where and when their civilisation existed. You will need to print the PDF Activity Sheet (found in Y6 files) or a piece of plain paper.

Use the map on slide 8 to first locate Central America and then the following countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.  Mark these on your own Maya Map (or use the PDF Activity Sheet). Read the information on Mesoamerica and the location of the Maya to pinpoint the exact location of where the Maya lived. Use the map on slide 10 and on your Maya Map, mark on the outline of where Maya was.  Next use the map on slide 12 to help you to label the following ancient Maya cities: Coba, Copan, Tikal, Tulum, Xunantunich, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Palenque, Calakmul. Remember to look for the locations on the PowerPoint slides.

Remember to upload your finished map to your work folder on the VLE.

Lesson 3: Telling the time am/pm: Watch the video and try the quiz. Complete the worksheet at the end.

Move onto lesson 4: Watch the video and try the quiz. Complete the worksheet at the end.

If you are not feeling confident about time, ask an adult to help you if you can to practise.

*** If you don’t feel confident with ‘Time’ look at the other videos from the National Academy.

 

Applying your knowledge: Go to lesson 9  - complete the quiz and the problem solving question

 

Topic- C&S

Think about all the different books you have read. Do you have a favourite genre? Think about how different books have different layouts, features, styles etc.

Write opening paragraphs for 2- 3 different genres of books and discuss how they are different and what they are a source of e.g

 a) history book b) adventure book c) travel guide d) manual e) facts about space f) sci-fi g) diary h) poetry book

Find Unit 5 Chez Moi and select Lesson 5. Go through the PowerPoint presentation then complete the work from 2 or 3 of the worksheet. Write your answers on paper then check your answers. If you have any corrections do them in a different colour then upload your work to the VLE. When you have finished there is a link for the ‘games arcade’ underneath the worksheets.
