Mrs Taylor's Class 5P
Welcome Back for Summer Term
I hope you have all had a wonderful break and are looking forward to an exciting final term in 5P.
As usual, we will have lots of fun and work together to achieve our goals in the Summer Term. We will be starting our new topic in Geography, learning all about water useage as well as looking at biographies in our English lessons.
Everything we do in Year 5 is to support your learning journey, enabling a successful transition into Year 6.
Mrs Taylor.
General Information
Reading
Here at St Patrick's we aim to foster a love of reading. Children are encouraged to choose books from our class library or to bring in their own books from home. I love finding new stories and authors to read!
In Year 5 reading for pleasure is a wonderful way to relax and unwind and we encourage all children to aim to read for at least 20 minutes a day.
Our current class novel is 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell.
Communication
Please let school know if any of your contact details have changed (phone number, email, addresses) in the event we need to call home or contact you.
Uniform
Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled and that children bring appropriate sun protection as the weather gets warmer.
Homework
Homework will be set each Monday.
We will post spellings, English and Maths homework every Monday on Purple Mash to be completed by the following Monday with the children tested on their spellings each week. Please encourage your children to complete their homework every week as well as reading each night (approximately 20-30mins).
Completing homework on time, in an organised and structured way are excellent habits to encourage and form a key part in consolidating their learning. Revising times tables will also help your child with key elements of Maths.
If your child is finding homework a challenge please don’t hesitate to let me know and we can discuss ways in which I can support them.
PE
Our outdoor PE session (which is currently Rounders) will take place every Monday.
Our other PE session (which is Cricket) will take place on Friday morning.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit.
Medical
A quick reminder -if your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it has been returned to school, is not out of date and a new form has been completed and handed into the office or class teacher.
Snack
As we are a ‘Healthy School’ we would like to remind parents that a healthy snack at playtime is encouraged. Please don’t send any chocolate or sweets into school as a snack.
Children are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to school each day.
Many thanks for all your support.
