Summer Term
Traditional Tales - Egyptian Cinderella
We have read the story of Egyptian Cinderella and compared it to the western version of the traditional tale. We talked about the similarities and differences and how the cultures differ. We thought about the different events in the story and the impact that they have of the feelings and emotions of the character. We then used this to help us to retell our own version.
Autumn Term 1
Escape from Pompeii
This half term our English work has been linked to our Roman's Topic and we have looked at the story 'Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit' as our stimulus. We have looked at Nouns and Proper Nouns and how we can describe them using expanded noun phrases. We have also looked at how to punctuate direct speech to form a conversation between two characters and written a diary entry from the point of view of Tranio (The main character of the story). Our final piece of writing based on this story is a setting description of what Pompeii would have been like during and after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The children have worked very hard and done a wonderful job.
