General Information

Reading

We love reading in Year 3 and we are really enjoying our VIPERS whole class and guided reading sessions each week. Please ensure your child keeps their reading book and reading record in their bags so that they are accessible throughout the week.

Homework - Reading

We encourage all children to read for 20 minutes each night. This can be independently or to an adult. We follow the VIPERS approach to developing reading skills:

V - Vocabulary

I - Infer

P - Predict

E - Explain

R - Retrieve

S - Summarise

Homework - Spellings

I will be uploading the weekly spellings each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday and the children will have one week to practise these words. The spellings will also be displayed in the classroom window each week. The children will be tested on their spellings the following Monday. The spelling test will be in a mixed order.

Homework - Times Tables

Making sure that the children can quickly recall their times table facts will really help with their learning in Years 3 and 4. Each week we will have a focus times table that we will work on in class on a daily basis. The focus times table will also be displayed in the classroom window the Friday before so you can practise at home. Children will then be tested on this times table the following Friday.

The following websites will help the children do this, at their own pace, and in a fun way.

P.E.

For this half term, our PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday while we are still swimming and then Wednesday and Friday once swimming has finished. Please send your child to school in their full PE kit. In colder temperatures, your child is welcome to wear joggers / leggings to keep them warm. Your child must have their school jumper or cardigan, no hoodies, please.

Swimming

OUR LAST SWIMMING SESSION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY 2ND MAY.

We will begin swimming lessons on Thursday 22nd February. Children will need a swimming hat, costume/trunks or swim shorts above the knee and a towel. Goggles are optional.  Please ensure all items are named clearly. Children will arrive at school wearing their swimming attire underneath their PE kit so please remember to include underwear for the children to change into after the lesson. Please ensure your child is not wearing any jewellery including earrings. If these cannot be removed you will need to send your child to school with plasters over their studs.

Uniform

Please ensure all uniform, bags and water bottles are labeled clearly.

Snack

The children are welcome to bring a snack to school for morning and afternoon breaks. Please ensure that these snacks are healthy!

Medical Conditions

A quick reminder! If your child has a medical condition that we need to know about, please inform us as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler or any other medication, please make sure it has been returned to school and is not out of date.
