Welcome to the Year 1T Homepage
This term we will be learning all about Great Explorers. In History we will exploring different types of explorers including; Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong and Captain Robert Falcon Scott. We will find out about the places that they found as well as looking at the different modes of transport that they used.
In Geography we will become explorers ourselves and we will be finding out about our own locality. We will find out about Churchtown and explore the different types of buildings and areas around our school.
Children will be given 3 reading books at a time. Please try to read each day with your child, even if it is only a couple of pages, and note this down in their reading record. The children will be given a specific day of the week and their books will be changed on that day if they have been completed and their reading record signed.
During and after completion of the book, please spend time discussing the setting, characters and key words from the story to further your child's understanding of the text.
Children are asked to bring their books into school on a daily basis as this will enable me to write a comment in their Reading Diary when they have taken part in either Guided or Individual reading.
New spellings will be given out on a Monday each week. Please ensure that your child finds time to practise these during the week as they will have a short spelling test the following Monday and the results will be sent home in their spelling book for you to see how they have done. Spellings will relate each week to the sounds and tricky words that we have been learning and practising in class.
Our class have P.E. on a Monday and Tuesday each week. Please ensure your child has their full, named P.E kit in school on these days.
Please ensure that all items of uniform are named so that if they are left they can be returned to their correct owners.
Due to the changeable weather please ensure that suitable clothing is brought to school each day, including a waterproof coat and hat and sun cream in warmer weather.
Our Healthy Snack scheme is still running. If your child is taking part in the scheme please make sure that you send in their money every Monday or at the beginning of each half term/ term.
