Yr2 LB

Welcome to Year 2

Home Learning is very different to what we are used to! It is important to complete the VLE work set and I will be giving rewards each Monday when the tasks should have been completed and the new ones will be set. Remember to keep doing everything listed below and enjoy yourselves doing lots of activities while you're at home too! Stay safe and healthy!

A few updates...

Reading

The children will continue to bring home 3 reading books each week on the designated day.  Please ensure your child's books and reading diary are in school each day to enable school reading sessions to be written in.  Please record any reading you do at home with your child.  Now children are reading more fluently please encourage them to talk about the book and answer questions to ensure they are understanding their reading. See the document at the bottom of the page to help support your home reading sessions if you need it.

Times Tables

These are new learning for Year 2 pupils and it would be really beneficial if you practise these regularly at home (or even in the car!). Although it is helpful to be able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, it is now important that Year 2 pupils start to recall multiplication facts without needing to count in steps. For example, they should be able to say “2 x 5 = 10” rather than “2 x 5 = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10”.

Spellings

Spellings will continue to be sent in the green book and tested every Monday. From now on, we would like Year 2 pupils to be practising all their spellings each week, as well as putting 3 spelling words into sentences written in the green book to be marked. Therefore, spelling books will now be taken in each Monday and given out again on a Tuesday with scores completed and new spellings for the week ahead. Remember to encourage your child to practise their spellings in a way they find most enjoyable and helpful. For example, the look, say, cover, write check, rainbow write or pyramid word methods.

Homework

Homework will also continue to be given out on a weekly basis. To make things easier, this will also be handed out and collected in on the same days as spellings. So both homework and spellings will be given out on a Tuesday and expected in by the following Monday (feel free to hand homework in early). This will alternately be Maths and English. Pupils will have their own plastic wallet to keep sheets well presented in their bag, then sheets will be collected in and kept in school.

PE

Please ensure PE kits are in school each week.  Our PE days for this half term are a Wednesday and a Friday.

Snack

Our school snack scheme will continue until Christmas. The children may pay £1 each week or £6 per half term. We have a range of healthy snacks each afternoon and on Friday we have a small treat.  In addition to this, all children can choose fruit each morning.

2B were set the task of imagining they were in the African desert and using Purple Mash to write a postcard back to school to describe what it was like there. They did an amazing job at this, writing some very thoughtful descriptions of the plants and animals around them and how it is very different to life here in Southport!
