Year 1B

smileyWelcome to the Year 1B Homepagesmiley

This term we will be learning all about Castles. This is a cross curricular unit and will cover History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and English. We will be exploring the castle buildings themselves before moving on to the people who lived within them and how they were attacked and defended. We will look at different construction materials and will explore axles and pivots to create our own moving cannons. Next we will move on to find out about where castles were built and why as well as producing a selection of different styles of writing such as Traditional/ Fairy tales with a castle setting and creating a non-fiction information page.

General Information

Reading books

Children will be given 3 reading books at a time. Please try to read each day with your child, even if it is only a couple of pages, and note this down in their reading record. The children will be given a specific day of the week and their books will be changed on that day if they have been completed and their reading record signed.

During and after completion of the book, please spend time discussing the setting, characters and key words from the story to further your child's understanding of the text.

Children are asked to bring their books into school on a daily basis as this will enable me to write a comment in their Reading Diary when they have taken part in either Guided or Individual reading.

P.E

Our class have P.E. on a Thursday and Friday each week. Please ensure your child has their full, named P.E kit in school on these days.

Uniform

Please ensure that all items of uniform are named so that if they are left they can be returned to their correct owners.
Due to the changeable weather please ensure that suitable clothing is brought to school each day, including a waterproof coat.

Snack

Our Healthy Snack scheme is still running. If your child is taking part in the scheme please make sure that you send in their money every Monday or at the beginning of each half term/ term.
