Change

During Explore;

The children talked about their experience and feelings about changing and acquiring new skills and wondered about the ways in which change happens.

During Reveal;

The children recognised the stories of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday as religious stories and some religious signs and symbols of Ash Wednesday, Lent and Easter Sunday and used some religious words and phrases. Some children are beginning to retell these stories and could use religious words and phrases to describe some religious actions and symbols of Ash Wednesday, Lent and Easter Sunday.

The children were able to recognise that people use the opportunity of Lent to change and make a new start and some children could ask and respond to questions about their own and others’ experience and feelings about how we can change.

Special People

During Explore;

The children  talked about their experience and feelings about the special people they know or have heard about.

During Reveal;

The children recognised some stories about Jesus’ life and were encouraged to recognise how everyone helps each other because they belong to the parish family.

The children then retold some stories about Jesus’ life and asked and responded to questions about what makes a person special.

Waiting

During Explore;

The children have talked about their experience and feelings about waiting. They have been encouraged say what they wonder about waiting. The children have asked and responded to questions about their own and others’ experiences and feelings of waiting.

During Reveal;

The children have recognised that Advent is a time of waiting to celebrate Jesus at Christmas and could recognise the Advent wreath, calendar, the colour purple and the Crib as religious signs and symbols. The children can use some religious words and phrases about Advent and waiting.

Some children can retell the story of the birth of Jesus and  use religious words and phrases to describe some religious traditions and symbols of Advent and Christmas.

Family

During Explore;

The children have been learning about the love and care shown in the family.

The children have talked about their experience and feelings about the roles of people within families.

During Reveal;

The children have been learning about God’s love and care for every family.

The children have recognised and retold some stories and psalms which reveal God’s love and care and have talked about Jesus’ childhood.
