Welcome to 2P

A very warm welcome to the children and parents of Year 2P.

We have a busy Summer term ahead in Year 2 with lots of exciting topics planned which I know the children will enjoy. In English we are reading Meerkat mail, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark and George's Marvellous Medicine. In Maths we will be focusing on Fractions and Time. In Science we will be continuing with out Plant's topic and then exploring different habitats. In History we will be learning about nursing in the past and in Geography we will be comparing beach resorts in different parts of the world. I am excited to be beginning our Art topic exploring the artist Monet and painting using watercolours.  As part of our Religious Education work we will be exploring the topic of Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

General Information 

Reading

We love reading in Year 2, children will be heard by an adult twice each week in school. During the Summer term we will be focussing on comprehension of what we have read. Please ensure your child keeps their reading book and reading record in their bags so that they are accessible throughout the week. Two reading books will be sent home each Monday with these being returned the following Monday ready for new ones. Please encourage your child to read with you regularly at home as this really support children's progress. 

Homework - Spellings

I will be uploading the weekly spellings each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday and the children will have one week to practise these words. The spellings will also be displayed in the classroom window each week. The children will be tested on their spellings the following Monday. The spelling test will be in a mixed order.

Homework - Maths

I will be uploading the Maths task each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday. 

The children are also encouraged to practise their times tables through Times Tables Rock Stars.

The children have their log in details for these sites in their reading records. 

P.E.

For this half term, our PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Thursday.  Please send your child to school in their full PE kit. Please ensure your child has suncream on in the warmer weather as both these sessions will be outside. Your child must have their school jumper or cardigan, no hoodies, please.

Uniform

Please ensure all uniform, bags and water bottles are labelled clearly.

Snack

The children are welcome to bring a snack to school for morning and afternoon breaks. Please ensure that these snacks are healthy!

Alternatively children can pay for school snack at the cost of £1 each week or £6 for the half term. Children receive a fruit snack in the morning and in the afternoon, we provide a variety of healthy snacks throughout the week and a treat on Friday. 

Medical Conditions

A quick reminder! If your child has a medical condition that we need to know about, please inform us as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler or any other medication, please make sure it has been returned to school and is not out of date.
