Welcome back for our final term in Year 1. I can't believe we are already in the Summer term. During this half term, the children will be continuing to apply our phase 3 and 5 graphemes within their reading and writing. In addition to this, we will be focusing on decoding real and none sense words in preparation for the Year 1 phonics screening check. This half-term in English the children will be learning looking at the story 'How to Catch a Star' by Oliver Jeffers and we will be using this as a stimulus for lots of exciting writing. In Maths, we will be learning about Multiplication and Division and exploring fractions.
The children will enjoy learning about different explorers in our History topic. In Science, we will begin our learning about Plants and growing. In DT, we are finding out about healthy choices through looking at the eat well plate and trying out different fruit to create our own fruit kebabs. In Computing, children will learn about programming and will be learning how to given commands to our floor robots - The BeeBots. Our physical education lessons will take place every Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday's lesson will be Athletics skills and our Friday lesson is net and ball games led by our amazing PDS coach, Neil. Both lessons will focus on children developing their range of physical skills as well their ability to work together, building their emotional skills. As part of our Religious Studies, our topic will be 'To the ends of the earth'.
Medical Conditions
If your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it has been returned to school, and is not out of date.
Reading
Two reading books will be sent home each Monday. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. This helps the children enormously to develop their reading and writing skills. Every week, an online reading book will be allocated on Active Learn. Please send your children’s Reading Record book into school each day.
Jumpers, Cardigans and Water Bottles
Please remember to clearly label all jumpers and cardigans and ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.
Snack
Please remember that £6 is due at the beginning of every half term to pay for your child's snack. Children receive a fruit snack in the morning break and in the afternoon, we provide a variety of healthy snacks throughout the week and a treat on Friday.
If you have chosen not to participate in the snack scheme and wish to provide a snack instead please ensure that it is a healthy food choice such as fruit or a cereal bar.
Homework
Please continue to read at least three times a week with your child at home.
P.E.
This spring half term, P.E. sessions will take place each Tuesday and Friday. Children should continue to come into school wearing their P.E. clothes with a school jumper or cardigan and appropriate footwear as one lesson will be delivered outdoors every week.
