“Faithfully following in the footsteps of Jesus, we serve, love and learn together, inspiring each other to excellence.”

    Welcome to 5S

We are absolutely delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 5! This exciting year marks a wonderful milestone in your child’s school journey, serving as a gentle step ready for the final year of school next year. Over the coming months, your child will dive into more brilliant adventures in reading, writing, science, and mathematics, discovering new talents along the way.

Our absolute priority is to create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to do their best. We cannot wait to see them grow in confidence and curiosity as we serve, love and learn together.

    News

Don’t forget to read the fortnightly newsletters for regular school updates.

    Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it is brought into school via the school office so that the administration forms can be filled in.

    Reading

Children in Year 5 should now be reading longer chapter books and therefore don’t have a set day for them to be changed. They are free to choose books from home or school and can change them whenever they have finished them. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. This helps the children enormously to develop their reading and writing skills.

Reading is important at St Patrick's, and we aim to foster a love of reading by giving the children opportunities to listen to and share a wide range of books and stories. In our class we have a Recommended Read, where the children are given the chance to suggest books to others in our class.

    Jumpers, Cardigans and Water Bottles

Please remember to clearly label all jumpers and cardigans and ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

    Snack

Please ensure that snacks are a healthy food choice, such as fruit, crackers or a cereal bar each day then Fridays only for treats.

    Homework

Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Homework will be set on Purple Mash each Monday and will be due the following Monday. There will be spellings and a Maths task.

    P.E.

Please check the class window for details of our PE days for this half term.  Children should continue to come into school wearing their P.E. clothes with a school jumper or cardigan and appropriate footwear as one lesson will be delivered outdoors every week.
