“Faithfully following in the footsteps of Jesus, we serve, love and learn together, inspiring each other to excellence.”

    Welcome to 3P

We are absolutely delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 3! This exciting year marks a wonderful milestone in your child’s school journey, serving as an opportunity to build upon our previous learning in Key Stage One and is the exciting beginning of Key Stage 2. Over the coming months, your child will dive into brilliant new adventures in reading, writing, science, and mathematics, discovering new talents along the way.

Our absolute priority is to create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to do their best. We cannot wait to see them grow in confidence and curiosity as we serve, love and learn together.

    News

Don’t forget to read the fortnightly newsletters for regular school updates.

    Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it is brought into school via the school office so that the administration forms can be filled in.

    Reading

Two reading books will be sent home each Monday if your child is reading book banded books. Once they have progressed to a ‘free reader’, they will bring home one book. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. This helps the children enormously to develop their reading and writing skills. Please send your children’s Reading Record book into school each day.

Reading is important at St Patrick's, and we aim to foster a love of reading by giving the children opportunities to listen to and share a wide range of books and stories. In our class, we have a quiet reading time after lunch each day to develop reading for pleasure as well as a story time at the end of the day to share a range of stories which may be more complex than the children can read on their own.

    Jumpers, Cardigans and Water Bottle

Please remember to clearly label all jumpers and cardigans and ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

    Snack

Now, in the Juniors children are encouraged to bring a snack from home if they wish. Please remember that our school is a healthy school as you consider the range of healthy food options which you provide for your child.

    Homework

Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Homework will be set on Purple Mash each Monday and will be due the following Monday. This will focus on spellings. As the term progresses, we will send home Maths homework to be completed together. This will come home on a Monday and the children will have two weeks to complete this.

    Times Tables

In Year 3, children will be working hard on developing quick recall of times tables. Therefore, we are asking children to log onto their TTRS account each week to practise. This platform provides children with opportunities for practice and a heat map to show which times tables which your child is finding difficult. Please encourage your child to log onto this platform. If your child has any difficulty accessing their TTRS account, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

    P.E.

Please check the class window for details of our PE days for this half term. Children should continue to come into school wearing their P.E. clothes with a school jumper or cardigan and appropriate footwear as one lesson will be delivered outdoors every week.
