A very warm welcome to the children and parents of Year 5S
We have a busy and exciting Autumn term ahead of us in Year 5 with lots of exciting topics planned which I know the children will enjoy. In English we are looking at the fantastic author Michael Morpurgo and beginning with the story, This Morning I Met a Whale. In Maths we will be focusing on number and place value, addition and subtraction, statistics, multiplication and division and perimeter and area. In Science we will be exploring properties and changing of materials. In History we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons. I am excited to be beginning our Art topic looking at the artist David Hockney.

General Information
Reading
We love reading in Year 5! Children are encouraged to bring a book to school every day as there will be opportunities to enhance our love of reading throughout the day. Children should also bring their reading diaries as these will be checked regularly. Please encourage your child to read at home every day, even just for a few minutes, and to record what they have read. If parents can read with their child it would be even better as this has been proven to accelerate the quality of their reading.
Homework - Spellings
I will be uploading the weekly spellings each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday and the children will have one week to practise these words. The spellings will also be displayed in the classroom window each week. The children will be tested on their spellings the following Monday. The spelling test will be in a mixed order.
Homework - Maths
I will be uploading the Maths task each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday.
Children have their own Purple Mash log in details in the front of their reading record.
P.E.
For this half term, our PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday. Swimming will begin from the 11th of September and will be every Thursday.
Uniform
Please ensure all uniform, bags and water bottles are labelled clearly.
