Welcome to 2P
A big hello and a very warm welcome to all our Year 2P children and families!
I am so excited to begin this new school year together and can’t wait to see all the wonderful learning, growth and achievements ahead.
Throughout the year, we’ll be exploring exciting topics, developing our skills and building confidence as learners. Most importantly, I’ll continue to create a supportive and happy classroom where every child feels valued, encouraged, inspired to do their best and mostly importantly be themselves.
Get ready for an exciting Autumn Term in Year 2, packed with creativity, curiosity and new adventures! We’ve got a fantastic term ahead, packed with fun and learning! In English, we’ll dive into brilliant books like Meerkat Mail and Pumpkin Soup, and even create our own firework poetry. In Maths, we’ll master place value, addition and subtraction and explore shapes. We’ll step back in time to learn about Southport in the 1960s, discover how maps work in Geography and get creative with a Peter Blake-inspired collage in Art. Plus, we’ll be making healthy pizzas in Design Technology — a delicious challenge! With Science, PE, Music, Computing, and RE also keeping us busy, it’s set to be a term full of curiosity, creativity, and achievement. We can’t wait to see what the children will accomplish! It’s going to be a term packed with learning, creativity and confidence-building. I’m so excited to watch the children thrive!
Thank you for your continued support.

General Information
Reading
We love reading in Year 2, children will be heard by an adult twice each week in school. Please ensure your child keeps their reading book and reading record in their bags so that they are accessible throughout the week. Two reading books will be sent home each Monday with these being returned the following Monday ready for new ones. Please encourage your child to read with you regularly at home as this really support children's progress.
Homework - Spellings
I will be uploading the weekly spellings each week via Purple Mash by 4.00pm every Monday and the children will have one week to practise these words. The spellings will also be displayed in the classroom window each week. The children will be tested on their spellings the following Monday. The spelling test will be in a mixed order.
The children are also encouraged to practise their times tables through Times Tables Rock Stars.
Please let me know if you require a copy of your child’s log in details.
P.E.
For this half term, our PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday and Friday. Please send your child to school in their full PE kit. Your child must have their school jumper or cardigan, no hoodies, please.
