1S

“Faithfully following in the footsteps of Jesus, we serve, love and learn together, inspiring each other to excellence.”

Welcome to 1S

We are absolutely delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 1! This exciting year marks a wonderful milestone in your child’s school journey, serving as a gentle bridge from the play-based early years stage to more structured, independent learning. Over the coming months, your child will dive into brilliant new adventures in reading, writing, science, and mathematics, discovering new talents along the way.

Our absolute priority is to create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to do their best. We cannot wait to see them grow in confidence and curiosity as we serve, love and learn together.

Don’t forget to read the fortnightly newsletters for regular school updates.

Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it is brought into school via the school office so that the administration forms can be filled in.

Reading

Two reading books will be sent home each Monday. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. This helps the children enormously to develop their reading and writing skills.  Please send your children’s Reading Record book into school each day.

Reading is important at St Patrick's, and we aim to foster a love of reading by giving the children opportunities to listen to and share a wide range of books and stories. In our class we have a 'Vote for a Book' station where the children are given the chance to vote for which book we share together as a class. We also have our ‘Travelling Trunki’ which is our travelling library which will go home with a different child each Friday.

Jumpers, Cardigans and Water Bottles

Please remember to clearly label all jumpers and cardigans and ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

Snack

If you wish for your child to be part of our school snack scheme, the cost is £6 a half-term, £12 for a term or £36 for the year. Children receive a fruit snack in the morning break and in the afternoon, we provide a variety of healthy snacks throughout the week and a treat on Friday.

If you have chosen not to participate in the snack scheme and wish to provide a snack instead, please ensure that it is a healthy food choice, such as fruit, crackers or a cereal bar.

Homework

Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Homework will be sent home each Monday from the Spring Term and will alternate between spellings and maths.

P.E.

Please check the class window for details of our PE days for this half term.  Children should continue to come into school wearing their P.E. clothes with a school jumper or cardigan and appropriate footwear as one lesson will be delivered outdoors every week.
