A big warm welcome to Class 1P with Miss Benson

Class email: 1P@stpatricks.sefton.school. Please feel free to email should you have any questions or you wish to share some news about your child.

News: Don’t forget to read the fortnightly newsletters for regular school updates.

Welcome back for our first term in Year 1. During this half-term, the children will be recapping our phase 3 sounds and looking at phase 4 blends in reading and Phonics. In English, the children will be focusing on labels, lists and captions looking at The colour Monster, This is the Bear and That's not my Teddy. In Maths, we will be focusing on numbers to 10.

The children will enjoy learning about different toys in living memory in our History topic. In Science, we will begin our learning about Animals Including Humans. In DT, we are looking at puppets and our focus in Art lessons will be self-portraits.  As part of our Religious Studies, our topic will be 'Creation and Covenent'. To find out more about our learning in school, please visit our Curriculum Pages.

Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition that staff need to know about, please inform school as soon as possible. If your child requires an inhaler, or any other medicine, please make sure it is brought into school via the school office so that the administration forms can be filled in.

Reading

Two reading books will be sent home each Monday. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. This helps the children enormously to develop their reading and writing skills.  Please send your children’s Reading Record book into school each day.

Reading is important at St Patrick's, and we aim to foster a love of reading by giving the children opportunities to listen to and share a wide range of books and stories. In our class we have a 'Vote for a Book' station where the children are given the chance to vote for which book we share together as a class.

Jumpers, Cardigans and Water Bottles

Please remember to clearly label all jumpers and cardigans and ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

Snack

If you wish for your child to be part of our school snack scheme, the cost is £6 a half-term, £12 for a term or £36 for the year. Children receive a fruit snack in the morning break and in the afternoon, we provide a variety of healthy snacks throughout the week and a treat on Friday.

If you have chosen not to participate in the snack scheme and wish to provide a snack instead, please ensure that it is a healthy food choice, such as fruit or a cereal bar.

Homework

During the Autumn term, our focus is reading. Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week.

P.E.

This Autumn half-term, P.E. sessions will take place each Tuesday and Thursday.  Children should continue to come into school wearing their P.E. clothes with a school jumper or cardigan and appropriate footwear as one lesson will be delivered outdoors every week.
